Club Members,

Please find attached the meeting minutes for March.  I also have several other things to pass along before the next meeting: I spoke with John at the Anderson Airport about our involvement at the air show in May.  He said that we can have a static display without any problems.  He was not sure if we will be able to fly or not.  They are holding a committee meeting this week to discuss the event and he is going to bring up our possibly flying.  He said that they are still looking for sponsors to make this a free event to the public.  If you can get your employers (for those of us still working for a living) to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated.  I told John that I would also ask our members for volunteers.  They need event staff for parking and also crowd control.  I have volunteered to help out wherever they need me.  If you are interested in helping let me know.  I want to also keep enough of our people at the display as well.  I need to know who is going to be available for the booth as well. I received a letter in the mail today from the 2008 U.S. Scale Team.  They are holding a raffle and fund raiser to raise enough money for the team to compete in Poland this July.  Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10.  They have two raffles.  The first raffle is for a trip for two to Top Gun.  The package consists of two All-in-One passes, two nights hotel accommodations and two Awards Banquet tickets.  This one is going to be tough to get one since the drawing is March 31.  Let me know quickly and I will try to contact them about how to get in on this one.  The second raffle's drawing is going to be held on May 31.  This one has approximately 50 prizes available.  The prizes vary from electric motors and speed controls up to a 1/3 scale Balsa USA kit.  I will post the flyer at the field so you can see the prizes that they have lined up already.  They are limiting the number of tickets sold to 1000.  This gives you pretty good odds of winning something.  Let me know if your interested in this raffle so that I can get some tickets. As many of you know, Hobby Town will be closing in the next couple of months.  I was contacted by Perry Grant who is trying to buy the franchise and keep the store open.  He has promised to stock the store with whatever we need to keep our planes in the air.  He was also interested in what it would take to set up a relationship with our club.  I told him point blank the issues we had before and a few of the tings that he would need to accomplish before winning back our business.  I am all for giving him an opportunity to earn our business.  He is going to find out in the next week if he will be able to buy the franchise.  I should have more information by the next club meeting.
